Network integration

Omnia Manage and UniFi

Omnia Manage reads your UniFi sites and adds their gateways, switches, access points and Protect cameras to the asset register, then draws your network from how the devices connect to each other (one map per client, for MSPs).

What it brings in

  • Gateways, switches and access points, as network devices.
  • Protect cameras and recorders, as CCTV assets.
  • Each device’s name, model, IP address, firmware and whether it’s online.
  • How each device connects to the next, used to draw the network map on the Network tab.

How it behaves

  • Access uses a read-only UniFi API key, so Omnia Manage can never change anything on your network.
  • MSPs link each UniFi site to a client. In-house teams have nothing to link: every site belongs to the company.
  • The Network tab draws a tree with the gateway at the top, switches under it and access points under their switch. Each device has an icon for its type, and an offline device is outlined in red.
  • Devices that UniFi doesn’t report a connection for, such as cameras, are listed under Not placed.
  • Devices are matched on serial number (a UniFi device’s MAC address), so one another tool also reports stays a single asset.
  • A device that disappears from UniFi is marked inactive rather than deleted, and comes back if UniFi lists it again.

Good to know

  • The map shows UniFi devices only, and doesn’t show port numbers. A site with a very large number of devices isn’t drawn.
  • A console only appears if the API key’s UniFi account can see it. A console that is offline in UniFi’s cloud is skipped.
  • Sites on a console that runs several, such as a UniFi OS Server, need console firmware 5.0.3 or later.

Questions

Can Omnia Manage change my UniFi settings?

No. UniFi API keys are read-only.

Does the network map update itself?

Yes. It’s redrawn after each sync, so it follows changes to your network.

Does it work for in-house IT teams?

Yes. In-house workspaces save the key and every site syncs.
