Omnia Manage and Google Workspace

Omnia Manage syncs Google Workspace users so devices can be assigned to real people, and brings the Chromebooks, Chromeboxes and ChromeOS Flex devices in the same Workspace into your register.

What it brings in

  • Users from a client’s Google Workspace domain.
  • Chromebooks, Chromeboxes and ChromeOS Flex devices: serial number, model, operating system version and storage.
  • Last seen, from the device’s last policy sync with Google, and the assigned user when their email matches a synced user.

How it behaves

  • The Workspace admin authorises Omnia Manage once from Google’s consent screen. Access is read-only.
  • Chromebooks need one extra read-only permission, which the admin approves from the Chromebooks tab.
  • Synced users sit beside Microsoft 365 users, so a client can use either, or both.
  • Devices are matched on serial number, so one an RMM or Intune also reports stays a single asset. On assets another tool created, only empty fields are filled.
  • A Chromebook that Google lists as disabled, deprovisioned or inactive is marked inactive, and one that hasn’t synced with Google for the offline threshold is added as inactive.

Good to know

  • Devices with no serial number are skipped and counted in the sync result.
  • A Workspace connected before Chromebook sync existed needs its admin to approve the extra permission once.

Questions

Does it sync Chromebooks?

Yes. Chromebooks, Chromeboxes and ChromeOS Flex devices sync once the Workspace admin has approved the Chromebook permission.

Does my team need a Google Cloud project?

No. Omnia Manage provides the connection and the Workspace admin just approves access once.
