Omnia Manage and Apple Business Manager
Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager hold what Apple sold an organisation. Omnia Manage reads those records to add purchase dates and models to your register and to find Apple devices no other tool reports.
What it brings in
- Apple devices, their serial numbers and models.
- The purchase date, taken from Apple’s order date.
- Devices Apple lists that aren’t in the register yet, added as discovered assets for you to review.
How it behaves
- Apple’s record is about purchase and ownership, not presence. It has no last seen, user or operating system, so it never marks a device offline or gone.
- A device already in the register gains only what it lacks: the purchase date, and the make and model when those are empty. Nothing a person or another sync set is overwritten.
- Devices are matched on serial number, so a Mac in Intune or an RMM is the same asset.
- A client’s first sync doesn’t announce any new devices.
Good to know
- Devices Apple lists as released from the organisation aren’t added, and assets already in the register are left alone.
- Each Apple organisation belongs to one client, so connect it for the client that owns those devices.
Questions
Does it include Apple School Manager?
Yes. Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager devices both come through the same connection.
Why bother with purchase dates?
Purchase dates are what the refresh forecast and warranty estimates are built from, so they’re worth having even where no MDM reports them.
Does it replace Intune or an RMM?
No. It adds purchase records alongside them.
