RMM integration

Omnia Manage and Action1

Omnia Manage reads the Action1 organisations you link to clients, keeps each client’s asset register current from their endpoints, and reads installed software for licence counting.

What it brings in

  • Endpoints from every Action1 organisation you link to a client.
  • Make, model, serial number, operating system, processor, memory, storage and last seen.
  • The assigned user, where Action1 has one.
  • Installed software for devices Intune doesn’t manage. Where Intune has a list for a device, Intune’s list is used.

How it behaves

  • The RMM is the source for last seen, status and the assigned user. Name, make, model, operating system, processor, memory, storage and platform are filled in from it only when Intune doesn’t already manage the device, and an empty value never clears one.
  • Devices are matched within a client by serial number, so a laptop that’s also in Intune or another RMM is one asset, not two.
  • A device not seen for the offline threshold is marked inactive and flagged for review, and one removed from the RMM is marked the same way.
  • Anything you set by hand, including a status, is never overwritten by a sync.
  • A client’s first sync is silent, so connecting a large estate doesn’t send a flood of new-device emails.
  • Installed software is read once a day per device. Link an application to a licence and its seats in use are counted from real installs.

Good to know

  • Devices with no serial number, such as some virtual machines, are skipped and counted in the sync result.
  • On big estates software is read over several runs, oldest first, so a first sync can take a little while to cover every device.

Questions

Why does Action1 matter for licence waste?

It’s one of the two sources of installed software, with Intune. Counting seats from installs means unused seats are worked out from real data, not a number someone typed.

Does Omnia Manage change anything in Action1?

No. It only reads.

What about devices Intune also manages?

They’re one asset, matched on serial number, and Intune’s software list wins for those devices.
